Ok, so if you didn't notice, additional AdSense ads have been implemented as well as the blog being FeedBurned (+ Ads in feeds). Now, the blog hasn't earned much income at all, but clicks have gone up in the past 48 hours since I've made these changes. I also added the "E-Mail This Post" button to posts and hope to further merge into the social-cloud-sharing crap. Obviously if I had done this sooner, the blog would've probably got a lot of attention on social news sites like Digg with certain hot topics. It's something I should've done sooner. I clicked this little box, but it obviously didn't work.
I'm guessing I probably have to add some kinda Meta-Data or something to the template for it to function, but I'll have to research that later. Leave help in comments if you got it. [Got it; added manually.] What else would you guys like to see added? What about content wise? Tips are welcome and I'd like to see more interaction from my followers and lurkers alike.
I'm thinking about taking this blog to a new level and perhaps making it a little more serious. A re-design might be in order, but right now I'm thinking that doesn't really make much of a difference in conveying information anyway. Not much wrong with the way it is now, but the color scheme is almost default and the layout in its entirety could probably use some tweaking. I'm no web-design expert and haven't worked on a serious site since before YouTube existed.
edit: Yay, for a near-instant three comments. Just wanted to add: Big thanks to those who have donated this past week. Our server payments are set for the next couple of months already.
Haha OT, but just noticed your SC2 countdown timer, I've had one on my site for the past month : )
ReplyDeleteAs for a change, I know people always seem to bitch about change, but really change is normally a good thing, no matter how many people may complain.
I think this site looks good, but surely you could step away from the blogie-ness, maybe make it look more bnet2.0 like? idk, I think the CMS is probably great, I like all the things that are on here from the following side bar, to the shout box, and songs are nice, but I know the trist song got annoying especially when I had like 4 new pages I opened up from the RSS feed and I had to stop them all and then had to repeat the process when I went to comment.
Too bad the comment as system isn't integrated with EON, that'd be great, idk if bhf is advertised anywhere on EON, for all I know it may be on the top nav bar, but surely you could do more at EON, but quite truthfully I look here more than I do at EON, also maybe have this integrated into the EON front page somehow would be quite fancy as well. maybe some how you could have just the frame with the important news that would be shared between the two, but the the gui would be completely different between the two.
Surely I wont see the ads since I'm an adblock user, but I know I do see the donate button.
Something that came to mind, is that, although the following left nav is great, there's also alot of wasted space, but you dont want something that's perma placed to be static in size and too tall, because then you're going to end up having users with clipping going on : (
Anywho ima stop typing, but there's my thoughts, if they are heard.
Another random crazy thought that just came to mind is although you have the BNet chat, maybe you could put some type of IRC client up there connected to the EON IRC or what ever IRC you do.
ReplyDeleteThen if the show/hide could run off of cookies, you'd be set.
I haven't ever looked into IRC chat widgets much, but I know mibit is a good one but it's not exactly a widget last time I looked, surely you could find something if you wanted that.
Another cool aspect that could be added is tutorials, because I know there's some great tutorials out there, but it'd be nice if they were all in one place sort of like how you have done with the files section, just an archive.
You could also have some type of posts/sections for in the mind of the coder, so people can follow and learn from them, but I guess the truth is, coders/hackers/crackers/whatevers are too busy doing what they are doing to also be documenting what they are doing.
Just throwing out random thoughts here ; )
I know/thought there was speak of a wiki to be made, like eonocyclopedia but what ever happened wit that? It would/could be a great tool. It would allow you to better elaborate on the links on the right hand side, and on many other things such as files, tuts, and the known people/stories.
ReplyDeleteOr is that what darkblizz took over as they had their whole single player SC2 crack happen.
EoNcyclopedia was tried from scratch a few times and didn't get very far. I'm sure with the release of SC2, there will be a lot more interest in documenting protocol and stuff and we will probably give it another shot.
ReplyDeleteTutorials have been on my to-do list for months. I'm sure I'll get to it one day.
